Default What are glitches

Some have the wrong impression of what a glitch is. I made topic to allow people to understand what a glitch. Some thing it's animation failure or command failure. A glitch is an event where a the rules and laws of a game broken by either two differents sets of rules conflicting with each, overseen replication of a command or a abuse command.

The first type often happens when game do set seperate recharge/recoil timing or do not set damage types. Ryu/Ken's Crotching Hard punch into a dragon punch is the classic two sets of rules conflicting. Both commands try to go off at the same time, which is why the moves comboed. The moves don't have to necessarily be done at the same time. Prime example, is snares done in certain rp games. You get snared, it can be reinforced by a totally different snare.

The second type we've all seen in so many games. It's often abuse to get more money or xp form an item or enemy that was suppose to disappear. Unfortunately, the command fails and the monsters/item stays to be exploited.

The last type of glitch is that's often abused on AI than players. Classic glitch is jump kicking the trash cans the enemy AI used in River City Ransom NES game. If you hit them before they throw the weapon, they'll run backwards until they reach outside the screen. It was possible to do this players as well too. These glitches have no way fail safe and can be abused.

Not all glitches are consider bad, though personally, I think they are all bad. A example of a glitch is Dodge stances being used while setting traps or spells. Though it's not mentioned as being a glitch because stances do not have animation.

It's a glitch because two commands are conflicting with each other. If the stance had required an animation, traps would take longer to do, if not impossible, to set while dodging. It's not consider a "Hardcore" glitch because Anet made the stances without animation and there is only a few small fail safes to stop them.

Auto-pilot, in this game, is a glitch because EVEN though you can manual move yourself, your method of attack is tied into with your auto-pilot. The movement, you press the mouse pad or space bar, your characters runs to his target. The command itself is not a glitch, but the fact that command can be exploited by other players makes it a glitch.

Re-applying or cycling a condition is also a glitch. If you re-apply a condition, it's makes the effect last longer. Hunter from World of Warcraft has a 4 second snare, if it lasted any longer, it would be too uber to use. Replicating the command every few seconds is a glitch. This method is known as Chaining. Chain poisoning, chain snaring, etc. are a few names you may be familiar if you played other MMORPGs.

Again, this topic was made to help you identify what a glitch is. Though some of you may disagree, you may look on this as opinion.
